India: an adventure of body, mind and spirit

How it will happen?

Delhi

Your journey will start in Delhi with the magnificent Akshardham temple, a classic example of Indian architecture. The temple sends a message of peace, healing and inspiration to sculpt your life according to your nature.

Dehradun

A night train will take you to Dehradun, a city of half a million people and the capital city of the Himalayan province of Uttarakhand. Dehradun is famous for its Basmati rice and Litchi fruit, is situated in Doon valley and surrounded by the Himalayan foothills. The Samagra center is located in Dehradun, and will be your home for a few days, where you can rest, relax and be yourself. In Dehradun you will also experience the colorful chaos of an Indian bazaar (market), tranquil Buddhist temples built by monks who fled from Tibet, and the peaceful village of physically handicapped people who weave beautiful cotton fabrics exported all over the world. Keep some of your shopping money to buy a variety of finished products from them.

During your stay in Dehradun, you will meet and mingle with children from the Samagra school and women being trained in sewing, embroidery and bridal makeup. The program is supported by the money you pay for the trip.

In Samagra Centre, you will participate in an ancient fire ceremony (Yajan) which is done to remind the participants of their ultimate goal in life: to become aware of the divine flame that pervades the whole universe. This flame is the giver of bliss and immortality.

Rishikesh and surroundings with seven day spiritual retreat

From Dehradun, you will move to the cosmopolitan town of Rishikesh, also India’s yoga capital. Situated on the banks of the sacred river Ganga or Ganges, Rishikesh is the doorway to the spectacular mountains and valleys of the Himalayas. In Rishikesh, you will immerse yourself in a 7-day long spiritual retreat. It will be the part of International Yoga Festival. Please go to www.internationalyogaweek.com for more details.

During the retreat, you will visit the goddess temple on the mountain top (5000 feet) for music and meditation with a picnic lunch. You will also travel to the Vashistha Guha or Himalyan cave in Ganga valley, where many sages and seekers contemplated and meditated upon the mysteries of life and universal Truth to free themselves from fear and sorrow. Program will include Fire ceremony and meditation.

During the retreat you will be free to plan your own day. You can attend the programs of the retreat as much as you would like to.

Mussorie and Hill Top

After the retreat, you will travel through the foothills of the Himalayas. There, you will journey to the hill town of Mussorie to experience the Himalayas and its villages. The journey will end in the town of Dhanualti, where you will get a stunning view of towering, snow-capped peaks (more than 20, 000 feet high) that separate India from Tibet and Nepal.

Agra

Trip’s last experience will be to go to city of Agra, where you will visit the Taj Mahal, the ultimate monument of love. Roam around in the Red Fort, one of the largest in the world. Visit Fatehpur Sikiri, a medieval city where the great Mogul emperor Akbar tried to establish a world religion (called Dīn-i Ilāhī) in the 16th century.

Your adventure will end in Delhi and may give you enough time to see the famous Bahai lotus temple in South Delhi. Lotus is the symbol of pure consciousness because lotus petals don’t retain any dirt on their surface and allow it to slip and remain pure. Our consciousness can become like lotus petals which, in spite of all disturbing thoughts and emotions, remain clear and clean. That sums up the message from Indian culture and sacred traditions.

Additional delight: Enjoying a variety of vegetarian cuisines from different parts of India and exploring the fabric and handicraft markets throughout your journey

Your tour guide and interpreters on this trip will be Jivasu, Suchitra, Teeka Ram and others.
